Bright,crisp,clean,glossy,colour pictorial artwork by Edward Mortlemans,illustrated front panel and spine/backstrip; with white lettering to both,rear panel with white background to publisher's advert for other available titles of Wheatley's in the 'Lymington Editions' series; with negligible shelf-wear,bumping,creasing to edges and corners - virtually fault free - a really exceptionl preserved example.Top edges with very light toning and clean, fore-edges minimally brighter with some very faint,mild foxing/spotting - if any at all; contents bright,tight and clean - text body+page edges foxing-free - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners - appears unread, apart from my own collation.Bright,crisp,clean,sharp-cornered,publisher's original,red+black dichromatic cloth boards/covers with bright,crisp,blocked gilt letters with title with black double-line border,to spine/backstrip and immaculate red+white regional maps (Corfu and Ceylon respectively) illustrated eps+pastedowns, both hinges solid and sound without any splits,tears or cracking; with negligible shelf-wear,bumping,creasing to boards/ covers - no nicks,tears splits or fraying present.UK,8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn,9-349pp [paginated] includes 23 chapters,plus [unpaginated] publisher's blurb/story precis to half-title,title page,a dedication,contents list/table and reverse of rear page with publisher advert for other author's other published languages.A really exceptional example - the only fault being the air exposure and it's concomitant effect to exposed top+fore- edges and handwritten date - everything else about the book+dw/dj is in EXCEPTIONAL condition - the best I've handled and ever offered. Wheatley created the Duke De Richleau,a fictional character who appeared in 11 novels published between 1933 and 1970. Originally created for a murder mystery 'Three Inquisitive People',written and set in 1931 but which was not published until 1939.This the 10th of the Duc de Richleau novels,and the book in which Wheatley killed off the character - although he did reprise the character one more time in 'Gateway to Hell‘ (1970). Set in the period 18th April,1958 - November,1960.The continuation of the Duke De Richleau adventure novels. The Duke de Richleau together with his friends,Richard Eaton,Rex van Ryn and Simon Aron – the Modern Musketeers,have faced many hair-raising adventures together.Now there enter Rex's son and Fleur,Richard Eaton's daughter.Fleur who believes in all the freedoms,including that of sex. But interwoven with the the story of Fleur's love life is a story of a strange inheritance that draws the whole party to Ceylon; and in Ceylon to face theft, murder,arson and blackmail.Until finally de Richleau has to take a last desperate gamble,alone,to save his friends.
